What is Synvisc?
Synvisc is a gel-like mixture that is made from a substance called hyaluronan, also known as sodium hyaluronate. Hyaluronan is a natural substance found in the body and acts like a lubricant and a shock absorber within the joint.
What is Synvisc used for?
Patients with knee pain due to osteoarthritis who do not get sufficient pain relief from simple pain killers, anti-inflammatory medications, exercise and physical therapy. It is also a non-surgical option for patients who do not want to have joint replacement surgery.
How is Synvisc administered?
Synvisc is a gel-like mixture that is injected directly into your knee. It is a series of three injections that need to be done one week apart for three straight weeks.
